Today was quite outside the hospital. According to Mr. Madiba's grandson Mandla Mandela, Madiba is getting stronger and his health is improving with each passing day. The visit left him with a warm feeling because Madiba is getting better. The small amount of messages and support are still overwhelming. Former president Nelson Mandela is showing "sustained improvement the presidency said today. President Jacob Zuma had visited Mandela at the Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital earlier on Monday, and assured him of the "love and support of all South Africans".On 19 July 2013, struggle veteran Andrew Mlangeni capped days of commemorations and celebrations around former President Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday by ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange. The 88-year-old travelled to New York as a guest of honour at commemorations around Nelson Mandela International Day. It's a privilege few are given, but the South African veteran took it in his stride, pounding the gavel three times instead of once. CEO of the New York Stock Exchange Euronext Duncan Nederhauer handed him a medallion in honour of the 4th official Nelson Mandela International Day. "We admire what you've done in your life and hope we could do half as much," says Nederhauer. Mlangeni responded: "It's a great honour, I feel highly honoured and humbled of course by your good gesture." The day’s event ended with a personalised tour of the trading floor.
In celebration of global icon Mr Mandela’s 95th birthday, Tiger Brands, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory and the Department of Basic Education (DBE), distributed 2 500 food parcels at underprivileged schools in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo provinces.
